GK Expo 2009

I have been religiously attending Gawad Kalinga events. Whether it is site-building events, expos, or marches, I’m there. There is just something about the people power of GK that amazes me.  The spirit of Bayanihan, the sense of camaraderie, and of course the energy of a large group of people working towards a good cause, and all those fuzzy feeling that you get when you do something nice for other people are there. With that said, it is probably pretty obvious to you now that I am anticipating the upcoming GK Expo 2009.

Last year’s EXPO was a blast. There were a lot of volunteers and beneficiaries who joined the march at Taguig. Another plus was the presence of some of the biggest corporations who also support the cause of Gawad Kalinga. There was the IT company Voncore, an insurance company, and other business organizations who took the time out of their busy schedules to march with other GK heroes. The place was packed and you can really feel the energy of the people who joined the event. The venue was also amazing as there were lots of things to see if you happen to get out of the venue. There were also bands, musicians, and other famous personalities who volunteered to entertain the people during the event.

If last year’s event was a blast, GK Expo 2009 would try to top that. I heard from a friend that there are going to be lots of simultaneous activities prepared for volunteers, youth, beneficiaries, and non-GK volunteers and that these activities are very dynamic and fun. She also said that there would be more bands and artists who volunteered to play for the night concert. Sponge Cola is going to be there, and negotiations for Bitoy and Ogie Alcacid to be part of the pool of artists are already in the works. Aside from famous personalities in show business, it was also said that some politicians would attend the event.

GK Expo 2009 is still a month away. We still have a lot of time to clean our calendars to make sure that we are free to participate in the event.
